DDA windows are honest, sturdy and rarely standard. Measure every one.

Dwarka is one of Delhi’s largest planned sub-cities, with sector after sector of DDA flats and cooperative group housing societies. Many flats are now 20–30 years old, and owners are upgrading old curtains to modern blinds. The windows here have some common traits worth knowing before you order.

Common window types in Dwarka flats

  • Older steel or aluminium frames with deep concrete sills — good for inside-mount blinds.
  • Replaced UPVC or aluminium sliding windows in renovated flats, often with mosquito mesh tracks.
  • Balcony doors opening to small balconies, sometimes enclosed with grills or glass.
  • Kitchen windows with exhaust fan cut-outs.

Because many flats have been renovated differently over the years, two "identical" flats in the same society can have different window sizes. Always measure each window.

Sun and heat

Dwarka’s open layout means many flats get unobstructed sun. West-facing living rooms heat up badly in the afternoon. A sunscreen or blackout roller with a light-coloured back reflects heat and protects furniture from fading. Read what works in Delhi heat.

Dust from open plots and construction

With construction and open land still around many sectors, dust is a constant. Flat roller fabric is the easiest to keep clean — far easier than venetian slats or heavy curtains. See fabrics that forgive Delhi dust.

Recommended blinds by room

  • Bedrooms: blackout roller, inside mount if the recess is deep enough.
  • Living room: zebra blinds for adjustable light, or a sunscreen roller to keep the view.
  • Kitchen: moisture-resistant roller that wipes clean.
  • Balcony door: a single roller or zebra blind outside-mounted above the door frame.

Inside mount works well in older DDA flats

The deep concrete reveals in older flats are ideal for inside-mount blinds, which look neat and leave the wall clear. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, as older openings are rarely perfectly square, and use the smallest width. Our window measuring guide explains it.

Prices for a typical Dwarka 2BHK

A 2BHK with two bedroom windows, a living room window, kitchen window and balcony door might total around 110–130 billable sq ft. At roller rates of ₹100–₹130 per sq ft, that is about ₹11,000–₹17,000; mixing zebra in the living room adds a little. All prices include GST, with a 10 sq ft minimum per blind. Room-by-room checklist for an older flat

  • Check whether old curtain rods are fixed into the same lintel you will drill — remove and fill the holes first.
  • Measure the recess depth; old steel frames sometimes leave less space than the concrete suggests.
  • Look for wiring running to old tube-light points above windows before drilling.
  • Note which windows have grills outside — they do not affect indoor blinds but can affect outdoor screens.
  • Decide whether the balcony is open or enclosed; enclosed balconies can take a regular indoor roller.

A quick note of each of these before you order saves a second visit and keeps the installation clean.

Choosing colours for older flats

Neutral, warm tones such as beige, light grey and ivory blend easily with the existing flooring and woodwork found in many older DDA flats, and they hide dust better than pure white.

FAQs

Do I need society permission to fit blinds?

Blinds are fitted inside the flat, so generally no. Some societies have rules about external balcony screens — check those for outdoor blinds.

How long does it take?

Made-to-measure blinds take 7–21 days to make and deliver, and installation usually takes under an hour per room.
