How to Choose Window Blinds, in the Right Order

Most blind mistakes are ordering decisions made before measuring ones.

Choosing blinds goes wrong in one specific way: by deciding the visible things first. Colour and style are decisions five and six. The professionals decide in the reverse of how catalogues show it, and the order is the whole trick.

1. Light, before anything

What is the window's job at 2 pm? A west bake, a street-facing night wash, a soft north glow — each answer eliminates fabric families on the spot. Sunscreen for the bake, blackout for the wash, light-filtering for the glow. Start anywhere else and you will re-choose later.

2. Room, before fabric

Rooms are a proxy for hours: bedrooms sleep, living rooms live all day, kitchens wipe. Zebra for all-day rooms, rollers for single-shift rooms, wipe-clean weaves for kitchens — this decides the product family more often than taste does.

3. Mount, before price comparison

Inside or outside mount changes the light maths, the hardware and the measuring rules. Decide it per window — the mounting guide settles it in thirty seconds per window.

4. Fabric grade, as a budget line not a treat

Choose the tier honestly: entry fabrics (₹100–₹130/sq ft roller) are genuinely good; premium collections (to ₹250) buy texture and depth, mostly on the windows people look at. Spend the difference where the room is lived in — that is the entire art.

5. Control

Chain, cordless or motorised — decided by reach, safety and frequency, per the control guide. On tall or stacked windows, motorisation is a spec, not a luxury.

6. Colour and finish — the fun one, saved for last

By now the range has narrowed to a shelf, and the colour guide picks inside it. Judging colour early is what turns a 20-minute decision into a three-showroom week.

Then measure, then price

Measure every window as width × height with the guide or AR tool, and price the list on the roller and zebra pages. The 2026 price guide anchors the totals, GST included, 10 sq ft minimum per blind. If any window resisted this method, it deserves the ten-minute conversation at Block E, Mangolpuri — that is what the counter is for.
