The best control is the one nobody in the house has to think about.

The fabric decides how the window looks; the control decides how the window lives. Three options, three jobs.

Standard chain

Included in every roller and zebra blind at no extra cost. Reliable, cheap to service, the industry default. Two rules: mount the cord anchor per the installation instructions (every kit includes the hardware), and on tall windows check that the chain's low point stays above 1.5 m — if it does not, consider the other two options.

Cordless

Spring or friction lift — pull to raise, push to lower. The right answer for small windows and the honest answer for kids' rooms is no loop to pull at all. Where a blind needs a longer drop or heavier fabric, cordless reaches its mechanical limits and motorised takes over.

Motorised — roughly ₹3,000–₹6,500 per window

  • Battery motors: no wiring, charge a few times a year — the retrofit standard
  • Wired motors: set-and-forget power; best added during a fit-out when walls are open
  • Smart control: schedules, sun-tracking and voice via hubs — see the motorised cost guide for what each layer adds

Which room gets which

  1. Bedrooms: chain or motorised — the 6 am opening is the daily argument
  2. Kids' rooms: motorised first (nothing dangling, per the safety guide), otherwise an anchored chain
  3. Stacked living-room runs: one motor, six windows, one remote — the clearest motorisation win there is
  4. Bathrooms and utility windows: standard chain, forever; nothing about the job rewards more

Every blind on the roller and zebra pages shows its price with and without motor before checkout — GST included, 10 sq ft minimum, roller from ₹100/sq ft, zebra ₹120–₹190. Full comparisons in the 2026 price guide; motor choices deserve a five-minute chat, and the Block E, Mangolpuri counter has both control types wired up to try.
