Half of every blinds quote is jargon. This page turns the other half into shopping power.

Blinds speak their own dialect of English: half millimetres and half millwork. Here is the whole vocabulary, in order of how often it decides a purchase.

The words that change the price

  • Billable area: width × height in square feet, with a 10 sq ft per-blind minimum — the floor that protects small windows from being made worse, not cheaper
  • Openness factor: how much a sunscreen weave lets through — 1%, 3%, 5% — trading view for heat rejection
  • Outside mount: mounted on wall/lintel, overlapping the opening; adds coverage hardware
  • Motorisation: the motor and control layer, roughly ₹3,000–₹6,500 per window on top of the blind

The words that change the look

  • Pelmet: the fabric strip that covers the roll at the top — a finished top edge instead of a visible tube. Included on many of our fabrics; ask per product
  • Cassette: the hard housing that wraps the full mechanism — the most tailored of the top treatments, and the favourite of bedrooms chasing darkness
  • Front roll / back roll: which way the fabric leaves the tube. Front roll hangs slightly away from the glass, keeping the fabric off the frame — the usual choice for doors
  • Stack: how deep the raised blind bunches at the top; 15–20 cm on a 7 ft drop, and the number that clears valances and fans
  • Side channels: physical edge rails that turn "dim" into "dark" on problem windows

The words in the fine print

  • Recess: the window's inset niche; "inside recess" mounting lives within it, "outside recession" is India-print for outside mount
  • Sill: the ledge — watch what a drop does to it in monsoon
  • Day-night / dual: two densities in one headrail — the zebra family's superpower
  • Remake: a re-cut blind; the policy question worth asking before paying

Every term in action lives on the roller and zebra pages, priced live, GST included, with the full table in the 2026 price guide. And the fastest glossary refresh is a showroom walkthrough — the Block E, Mangolpuri counter can show pelmet, cassette, front roll and channels in the same five feet of rail, Mon–Sat 10am–7pm.
