Blinds for Sliding Doors and Large Windows: Wide-Span Playbook

Wide glass wants one blind, one control and one brave decision.

Large openings are where good blinds look architectural and average blinds look like compromise. Three decisions carry the whole result.

1. One blind per opening — almost always

Two panels over one sliding door means one join, two chains and a permanent argument about alignment. Made-to-measure rollers and zebras run to 10 ft wide in a single blind; a 9 ft slider in a clean roller fabric is one unit from ₹4,500 (90 sq ft at ₹100/sq ft and up by fabric, GST included). Unless the opening genuinely divides into two architectural bays, cover it as one.

2. The stack is the design decision

An open blind has to live somewhere: a 7 ft drop stacks 15–20 cm deep when raised. Check the valance line, ceiling fan clearance and curtain-rod plans before ordering — this one measurement saves most "it looked different in my head" moments. Zebra stacks shallower than its reputation suggests and reads beautifully at door scale; its bands hold proportion even fully closed.

3. Fabric by the job, not the size

  • Balcony sliders (light and heat): zebra for all-day control — from ₹120/sq ft, a 9 ft door unit lands from ₹4,200
  • Living rooms with TV walls: sunscreen or dim-out roller — flatten the glare before it hits the screen; most fabrics ₹100–₹130/sq ft
  • Unshaded west glass: sunscreen over light-filtering — the openness factor is the whole argument

Motorisation: the wide-span maths turns

Past about 8 ft wide or 8 ft tall, manual control gets awkward — chains sit too high, fabric gets heavy, and daily reach becomes a negotiation. At that size motorisation (roughly ₹3,000–₹6,500 per window) stops being a luxury and becomes the mechanism spec. One remote over a slider is the single change that makes big glass feel effortless.

Widths at scale are exact in the configurator — put your slider on the zebra or roller page and the live price updates per foot — and the price guide anchors any quote you compare. For a span this visible, judge the fabric in person: the Block E, Mangolpuri showroom rail runs to full-door widths, Mon–Sat 10am–7pm.
