Blinds for Doors and Balcony Glass: What Works, What Wrinkles

A door is a window that gets opened. Choose for the opening, not the glass.
Glass doors — balcony sliders, kitchen doors with glazing, French windows — break the one assumption every blind is built on: that the window stays where you left it. Here is what actually works when the glass moves daily.
The right choices, in order
- Zebra on balcony doors: day-and-night control in one pull, bands read beautifully at door scale; from ₹120/sq ft, with the run priced as one opening
- Roller on kitchen and utility doors: clean lines, wipe-clean fabric where hands touch the frame most; from ₹100/sq ft
- What wrinkles: anything that hangs into the swing path — a blind extending past the door frame meets a moving door, and no mechanism enjoys that
Measuring a door opening correctly
- Mount above the frame, not inside it — doors need the full leaf to swing; the headrail sits on the wall or lintel
- Allow the fabric to clear the door's top rail through its full opening arc; your measure should be taken with the door open to about 30°, the point where clearance is tightest — the measuring guide covers the technique
- Track the stack: a door-sized blind stacks 15–20 cm when open — check the valance or ceiling line does not interrupt it
The chain question on doors
Frequently-used glass doors are the second-best home for motorisation after stacked window banks (roughly ₹3,000–₹6,500 per window): the remote solves reach and the daily wear pattern at once. Standard chain works fine if the drop is comfortable to reach; wall-anchor the cord per the installation instructions for kid and pet safety on any ground-floor door.
How it is priced
Doors are the widest "windows" in most homes, so they carry the honest per-sq-ft question: a 2.5×7 ft balcony door is 17.5 sq ft — zebra from ₹2,100, roller from ₹1,750, one continuous blind across the full width rather than two panels that argue about the join. The 10 sq ft floor never applies to doors; the 2026 price guide has the size examples, and the zebra blinds page prices your exact door width live. Bring the door photo with the swing marked, and the configuration question answers itself at Block E, Mangolpuri, Mon–Sat.
