Blinds Warranty Explained: What Is Covered and What Is Not

A warranty is only as good as the visit that follows the phone call.
"Comes with warranty" is printed on almost every blinds quote. But warranties differ hugely in length and coverage — and in how easy they are to actually use. Here is what a good warranty should include and what you should check before buying.
The three parts of a blind
A blind is not one product. It is a fabric, a mechanism and sometimes a motor, plus the installation that holds it up. A complete warranty covers each.
1. Fabric
Covers manufacturing defects: fraying edges, coating that peels or cracks, delamination of blackout layers, and fabric that warps without misuse. It does not usually cover stains, pet damage or tears.
2. Mechanism
Covers the clutch, chain, brackets, tube and spring systems. A clutch that slips, a chain that snaps under normal use or brackets that loosen are typical claims.
3. Motor
Covers motor failure, remote issues and battery faults under normal use. Motor warranties vary the most, so check them carefully.
What a good warranty looks like
At BlindsBazaar, every order comes with a 3-year warranty on fabric, mechanism and motor, and we keep replacement parts in stock. That length matters: most defects in poor-quality blinds appear in the first one to two years.
Common exclusions (everywhere)
- Normal fading from years of strong sunlight
- Damage from water leaks, flooding or rain on indoor fabrics
- Misuse — pulling the fabric by hand, forcing a stuck blind
- Pet scratches, children hanging on chains
- Damage from incorrect cleaning (bleach, soaking)
- Blinds installed or modified by someone else
Installation and measurement
If the seller measured and installed, sizing and fitting problems should be their responsibility. If you measured yourself, a wrong size is usually not a warranty matter. That is a key reason to use professional measurement — free across Delhi NCR with us — or follow a careful measuring guide.
How a claim usually works
- Contact the seller with your order number and photos or a short video.
- Describe the problem: slipping chain, peeling coating, motor not responding.
- A technician visits or remote troubleshooting is tried first for motors.
- The part, fabric or motor is repaired or replaced.
Keep your invoice — it is your proof of purchase and date.
Questions to ask before buying
- How many years, and does that apply to fabric, mechanism and motor separately?
- Who visits for a claim, and is there a visit charge?
- Are spare parts stocked locally?
- Is the warranty written on the invoice?
Making blinds last beyond the warranty
- Operate with the chain or remote, never by pulling the fabric.
- Dust regularly — see washing roller blinds.
- Roll blinds up during storms if windows are open.
- Fix small issues early — our roller blind problems and fixes guide helps.
Red flags in warranty terms
- A warranty that covers only the motor but not fabric or mechanism.
- Terms that are verbal and not written on the invoice.
- Visit charges for every warranty claim.
- No stocked spare parts — repairs that take weeks.
Why longer warranties matter in India
Strong sun, dust and humidity are tough on blinds. A warranty of a year or less often ends just before weaker materials begin to fail. A 3-year warranty covers the period in which most genuine defects show up, which is why it is worth checking the length as closely as the price.
FAQs
Does the warranty cover fading?
Gradual fading over years is normal wear. Sudden, uneven discolouration due to a fabric defect is a valid concern to raise.
Are motorised blinds covered for 3 years too?
Yes — with BlindsBazaar the motor is included in the same 3-year warranty. Browse roller and zebra blinds.
