Blind Safety for Kids and Pets: The Five-Minute Audit

The safest cord is the one that does not exist. The second-safest is anchored before the room is furnished.
Blinds are one of the few products where a two-minute installation detail decides a room's safety envelope. With children or pets in the house, run this audit — it takes five minutes and catches everything.
The four checks
- Anchor the cord. Every chain should be fixed at its top anchor point per the kit's instructions, tight enough that the loop cannot be pulled away. This is the single highest-value safety line in any room with small hands
- Clear the sleep zone. Cords never hang beside a cot, bunk or low bed — even anchored ones. If the geometry is unfixable, the fix is the next check
- Know the low point. The chain's lowest reach should stay genuinely out of a child's reach; on tall windows it will not, which is the honest argument for motorised
- Check flexibly, seasonally. Furniture moves, kids grow, grandparents visit. A cord safe in March can be reachable by June.
The configurations that end the argument
- Motorised (roughly ₹3,000–₹6,500 per window): no cord at all, one remote kept out of reach — the default choice for kids' rooms and the retrofits parents book most, per the kids room guide
- Cordless: right for smaller windows where the mechanism's limits allow it — nothing to pull by definition
- Anchored chain + layout discipline: the frugal path, fully safe when checks 1–4 hold and furniture respects the zone
Pets — a shorter conversation
Cats will bounce at a hanging chain, and a lower loop is a toy. The same audit applies with one extra note: motorised blinds solve the pet case for the same reason they solve the toddler case — no moving string at mouth height. Laminated drops and taut chains also end up on the chewing menu, which is a mounting-geometry conversation worth having at order time.
Every visit, free
If you are unsure how your existing blinds score, photograph each window's control side and send it across — safety questions like these get answered the same day. New installs get their anchoring checked as standard, and motor options are wired up to try at Block E, Mangolpuri, Mon–Sat 10am–7pm. Prices for the safe configurations: roller, zebra, or the table in the 2026 price guide.
