Printed & Patterned Roman Blinds: Geometric, Floral, Animal

A printed roman is the fastest way to make a window the focal point of the room.
A printed roman blind turns the window from a light source into a design feature. But prints behave differently at window scale than they do on a 15 cm swatch — here is how to choose one that works.
How pattern scale works at window size
A 1.2 m drop is roughly the height of a door poster. Fine, dense prints read as texture from across the room; large motifs read as a statement. The sweet spot for most windows is a repeat between 15 and 40 cm — big enough to see from the sofa, small enough that the pleats do not slice motifs in half.
The three print families
- Geometric print roman blinds: chevrons, grids, diamonds and mid-century arcs — the modern favourite, and forgiving of a less-than-square room because the geometry reads deliberate
- Floral and botanical: soft, layered, traditionally "romantic" — large blooms suit bedrooms, small ditsy florals suit studies and dining corners
- Animal print roman blinds: leopard, zebra stripes and abstract animal textures — high contrast, best kept to one window per room or the print owns the space
Fabric still comes first
A print on a stiff weave folds flat and modern; the same print on linen folds soft and relaxed. For modern roman blinds, choose a tighter weave so the pleats stack crisp. If the room needs darkness, have the print backed with a blackout lining — the face looks the same, the room stays dark.
Where prints belong (and where they do not)
- Kitchen breakfast windows: one bold geometric print, the rest plain — the classic formula
- Kids' rooms: animal prints they can name; pair with cordless lift
- Living rooms with a view: keep the print on a window you actually want to look at
- Avoid: two competing prints in sight of each other
What printed roman blinds cost
Roman blinds are priced per square foot of billable area (10 sq ft minimum per window), like every blind we make. Printed fabrics sit in the standard to premium fabric grades — the print does not change the rate, the base cloth does.
