Kids Room Blinds: Safety, Sleep and Sizes That Grow Up

In a kids room the first specification is not colour. It is what dangles.
Children's rooms change faster than any room in the house — toddlers to school to teenagers in one blind's lifetime. Here is the specification that survives all three phases, starting with the part parents ask about last and should ask about first.
Safety: what hangs is what matters
Any pull cord is a hazard near a cot or a bunk bed. Two configurations resolve it completely: motorised (no chain at all — roughly ₹3,000–₹6,500 per window, controlled by one remote the kids cannot reach) or a standard chain mounted with the cord fixed at its top anchor point so the loop cannot be pulled loose, per the installation instructions in every kit. If the room may host a cot, start with the motor conversation — retrofitting it later is routine, but doing it first is cheaper than a security rethink at 3 am.
Sleep: how dark the room actually needs to be
- Naps and summer mornings: Delhi sun rises before the routine does — a blackout fabric (from ₹130/sq ft) plus outside-mount overlap is the difference between 6 am and normal
- An older child's study room: dim-out or sunscreen — soft light for homework, privacy at evening
- The honest middle: a blackout roller with a light-filtering first position — dark when needed, glow when wanted; both from the same roller range
Fabric: easy-clean and colourproof
Kids' windows take fingerprints, crayon moments and enthusiastic curtain-pull games. Smooth woven roller fabric wipes with a damp cloth in seconds; the higher-density weaves also resist the worn patches cheaper cloth shows after a year of being touched. Pattern and colour are the last decision, not the first — though this is the one room where a little boldness pays off, because the blind is often the room's only soft surface.
What it costs
A standard 4×5 ft kids-room window: roller from ₹2,000 (blackout fabrics from roughly ₹2,600), zebra from ₹2,400, motorisation adding ₹3,000–₹6,500 per window — GST included throughout, 10 sq ft minimum per blind. Full tables in the price guide. Measure each window with the guide or book the free Delhi NCR site measurement; bunk-bed rooms are exactly why we fixed "one visit, all windows" into the process.
