NCR dust settles on everything, and blinds are shaped to hold it. Cleaned right, any blind looks new for years; cleaned wrong, one afternoon ruins it. Here is the routine by type.

The weekly two minutes (all types)

Feather-duster or microfibre cloth, working top-to-bottom with the slats/fabric closed. This alone prevents 90% of deep cleans.

How to clean roller and zebra blinds

  1. Vacuum monthly with the brush head on low suction, fabric flat
  2. Spot-clean stains with a damp cloth and mild detergent — dab, never rub (rubbing buffs a shine patch into the weave)
  3. Deep clean: professional ultrasonic cleaning; do not machine-wash or soak — coatings delaminate

Fabric grades differ — the weave logic is in the fabric guide.

How to clean venetian and wooden blinds

  • Aluminium slats: wipe each side with a damp microfibre; dry immediately. Kitchen grease: a drop of dish soap in the water
  • Wooden slats: DRY clean only — damp cloth sparingly, never wet, never soap: water spots and warping are permanent. Wood-cleaner spray on a cloth, not on the blind
  • A slat brush (pronged duster) does three slats per pass — worth ₹200

How to clean vertical blinds

Vertical surfaces barely hold dust — vacuum with the brush, spot-clean louvres, and PVC louvres (bathroom/kitchen) can be wiped with anything. See the vertical guide for detachable louvres.

How to clean PVC and outdoor blinds

The easy ones: wipe with a damp cloth, hose the mesh gently, dry in place. Full outdoor routine in the outdoor shades guide.

What ruins blinds (the repair-call classics)

  1. Machine-washing coated blackout fabric — the layers separate
  2. Wetting wooden slats — warps and stains the grain
  3. Harsh bleach or abrasive scourers on any fabric — permanently discolours stripes on zebra blinds
  4. Spraying cleaner directly on the blind instead of the cloth — it runs into the headrail

Follow the weekly dust habit and the deep clean becomes a once-every-two-years event. New blinds that stay new: start at types of blinds or book a free measurement.
